The rice at Hoshitoge Rice Terraces is grown solely with snowmelt and rainwater\u2014fields of this kind are known as <em>Tensuiden<\/em>, or \u201cheaven-fed paddies.\u201d Because they rely entirely on nature, securing enough water is often a challenge.
