A Welcoming Local Coffee Shop and Community Hub Near Hachiman-gu Shrine

YELLOW BASE COFFEE is a specialty coffee shop opened in 2021 in Izuhara-machi, Tsushima City, Nagasaki Prefecture. Established by an owner who returned to Kyushu after spending time in the Kansai region, the shop has become a popular gathering spot for both locals and travelers.
It is situated near the Kawabata-dori shopping street and Hachiman-gu Shrine—an area that serves as a natural starting point for exploring Tsushima. The shop’s philosophy is inspired by the concept of Itto Shogu (lighting up one’s own corner), reflecting the owner’s desire to brighten and support the immediate local community before expanding outward.branch in Busan, South Korea.
The shop offers original hand-drip blend coffees, sweets, and whole beans sold by weight for both dine-in and takeout. A major highlight is the menu of original drinks incorporating regional ingredients.
The signature “Tsushima Blend” is crafted to reflect the island’s expansive nature, featuring a clean, clear sweetness with minimal bitterness. Another popular item is the “Tsushima Salt Cafe au Lait,” which uses mineral-rich Hamagoshio salt harvested from local seawater to enhance the natural sweetness of the milk and the depth of the coffee. The shop is known for its open, close-knit environment, where the friendly owner frequently chats with customers and shares insights about the area.
The shop focuses on community connection, creating a welcoming space where visitors and locals can easily interact.
While the drink lineup offers the variety of a modern coffee house, the shop also functions as an informal information hub where travelers can connect and exchange travel tips. Visitors can often learn about lesser-known local spots directly from residents.
A great way to spend time here is to pair a signature “Tsushima Blend” or a “Tsushima Salt Cafe au Lait” with a sweet treat like a sugar donut. If you find a coffee you enjoy, you can purchase the beans by weight as a souvenir. Given its location right by the main shopping street and Hachiman-gu Shrine, the cafe is a convenient place to stop by before or after a walking tour of central Izuhara.
