Kirito Coffee Roastery

A boutique home roastery offering meticulously crafted coffees that showcase true dedication to flavor.

 What is Kirito Coffee Roastery

Located in Ukiha Town, Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kirito Coffee Roastery is a specialty home-roasting coffee shop dedicated exclusively to dark-roast Mandheling beans. Run by master roaster Mr. Hama, this roastery blends seamlessly into the nature-rich landscape of Ukiha, earning a quiet, dedicated following among coffee lovers. The shop is housed in a beautifully renovated building that was once the old Yamakita Nursery School, located near the “Michi-no-Eki Ukiha” roadside station, giving the space a warm, nostalgic charm.

The moment you step inside, you are greeted by the rich, savory aroma of freshly roasted coffee and a slow, relaxing pace of time. The interior preserves the cozy details of its nursery school days, offering a comforting atmosphere that makes it a popular resting spot for travelers. The owner’s gentle and welcoming personality is highly praised, making the roastery a peaceful community hub where locals and visiting coffee enthusiasts from outside the prefecture naturally connect.

Highlights of Kirito Coffee Roastery

The biggest standout feature of this roastery is its unique focus as a “Dark Roast Mandheling Specialist.” While most cafes offer beans from various regions around the world, Kirito Coffee Roastery focuses entirely on Mandheling, using custom roasting techniques to bring out the absolute best of the bean’s character. This dedication yields a signature cup with the deep richness and smoky aroma unique to dark roasts, balanced by a gentle, lingering sweetness in the aftertaste that makes it incredibly smooth and easy to drink despite its bold bitterness.

In addition, the interior doubles as a gallery space showcasing paintings and artwork, seamlessly blending the worlds of coffee and art. The roastery occasionally hosts art classes, making it more than just a cafe. It is a true hub for cultural exchange. Looking out the windows, you can take in Ukiha’s peaceful countryside views and the rolling Mino Mountain Range, allowing you to savor your coffee while completely enveloped by quiet nature.

There is nothing better than enjoying a rich, dark roast in a space this cozy.

How to Enjoy Your Visit

If you are stopping by during a sightseeing trip around Ukiha, your first move should definitely be ordering their signature dark-roast Mandheling. Carefully brewed using a traditional cloth filter (nel drip), the coffee is incredibly aromatic with a deep, complex flavor profile that encourages you to slow down and savor every sip. Their signature “Mandheling Sinar” is an absolute must-try for coffee lovers, offering a flawless balance of rich aroma and smooth bitterness.

Inside, you can spend your time exactly how you like—whether that’s reading a book to the background music or admiring the displayed artwork. Since the shop requires guests to take off their shoes upon entering, it feels just like relaxing at home. It is the perfect escape for anyone looking to forget the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a moment of stillness.

Because the surrounding area is dotted with fruit orchards, local cafes, and the “Michi-no-Eki Ukiha” roadside station, stopping by the roastery pairs perfectly with a driving tour of the region. A popular way to spend a luxurious autumn day is to go fruit picking or maple leaf viewing, and then warm up here with a hot cup of coffee. Takeout is also available, so you can enjoy a premium brew while taking in the beautiful scenery of Ukiha on the go.
