What is Fumotoppara?
Fumotoppara is a camping facility set in the vast nature of Fumoto, Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, where visitors can fully enjoy sweeping views of Mount Fuji. Located on a sprawling 500-hectare grassland at the foot of Mount Kenashi, the land has been preserved for around 440 years by the Takekawa family, who have guarded the historic “Fuji Gold Mine (Fumoto Gold Mine)” since the Sengoku period. Today, they manage the property by blending forestry with campground operations.
The defining feature of the campground is its open-site (free site) format without designated plots, allowing campers the freedom to choose their own tent placement and layout. Known as one of the real-life locations featured in the popular anime Laid-Back Camp (Yuru Camp), it is beloved by everyone from beginners to veteran campers as a pilgrimage site that every camping enthusiast wants to visit at least once.

The biggest highlight is undoubtedly the unobstructed view of Mount Fuji stretching out directly in front of you. Mount Fuji changes its expression depending on the time of day and the weather, offering incredible sights such as Mount Fuji glowing in the morning sun, its silhouette at sunset, and its presence under a clear night sky glittering with stars. If you time your visit right, you might even witness “Diamond Fuji,” making it a favorite spot among photography enthusiasts.
Despite being an open-site campground, the grounds are equipped with well-maintained essential facilities, including an administration building, flush toilets, a large public bath, a camp shop, and vending machines, making it a comfortable stay even for first-time campers. How to Enjoy Your Visit
Check-in is conducted in a drive-through format from your vehicle. The system automatically recognizes the license plate registered during booking, ensuring a smooth entrance. Upon arrival, it is recommended to walk around the grassland first to find your favorite spot with the best view of Mount Fuji. Because there are no marked plots, you can set up even large tent layouts with plenty of space to spare.
Firewood can be purchased at the shop or via vending machines, and bagged firewood can be collected next to the cooking area. A classic way to spend your evening is surrounding a campfire while taking in the starlit sky and Mount Fuji’s silhouette. In the morning, step outside into the crisp, clear air to view the full, sharp panorama of Mount Fuji. Day camping is also available, so you can stop by just to enjoy the stunning scenery without staying overnight. Vehicles are restricted from entering or exiting the grounds after 17:00, so it is best to finish any shopping or errands early.

By Public Transit: From JR Fujinomiya Station or Kawaguchiko Station, take the Fujikyu Bus (bound for Kawaguchiko / Mount Fuji area) to the “Michi-no-Eki Asagiri Kogen” bus stop, then walk for about 40 minutes.
By Car: Take the Nishi-Fuji Expressway and National Route 139 toward Asagiri Kogen from the Shin-Tomei Expressway “Shin-Fuji IC”. Approx. 26 km from Shin-Fuji IC.
