About Tsumugiyado Fuji

Newly opened in January 2025, Tsumugiyado Fuji is large enough for groups of up to nine people. While it keeps the feel of a traditional Japanese house, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The authentic log sauna on the property is also becoming very popular on social media and with travelers who love unique experiences. Located between Tokyo and Nagoya, it is a highly rated spot for adults who want a quiet place for work retreats or gatherings with close friends.

Sauna

The greatest charm of the inn is the completely private Finnish style log sauna nestled in the Japanese garden. The sauna building is constructed using wood from Shizuoka Prefecture and features a wood burning stove made by MOKI, which is highly trusted by domestic sauna fans. The sauna gets nice and hot, over 90°C, so you can just sit back and relax while watching the fire. You can also enjoy a special Fujieda experience by pouring local tea over the sauna stones to create fragrant steam. After relaxing in the gentle scent of the tea, you can cool off in a bath filled with soft natural groundwater pumped from right below the inn. Taking a break in the outdoor area while listening to the sounds of nature is a great way to refresh your mind and body. Please keep in mind that the sauna must be booked as part of a specific stay plan.

Rooms

You can have this entire 124 square meter, 100 year old house all to yourself. There are four guest rooms in total, three Japanese style and one Western style, so you can use the space however you like. From the open Japanese rooms near the traditional earthen floor to the rooms facing the porch with a classic feel, every space is filled with the warmth of wood. There is also a Western style room with a lock for those who want more privacy. Futons are available for up to nine guests, making the house perfect for large groups or family gatherings. The facilities are great too, with on site Wi-Fi and a traditional Goemon style bathtub. This home blends a nostalgic atmosphere with modern cleanliness, making you feel as if you have returned to your own house in the countryside.

Offsite Retreat Plan

Tsumugiyado Fuji offers more than just a meeting space; it provides a serene environment designed to fundamentally “recenter” a team’s perspective and relationships. By renting out this entire 124-square-meter traditional Japanese house, your team gains a deep sense of psychological safety that simply cannot be achieved in a standard office setting.

1. Reset: Recenter The Mind And Body Through Sauna

Using a traditional “löyly” infused with Fujieda-grown tea followed by a quiet open-air bath, team members can reset their thoughts to a clean, neutral state. This provides the ultimate icebreaker, naturally dissolving professional titles and lingering tension.

2. Create: Team Synergy Built Through Cooking

The process of stepping outside defined roles to prepare a meal together at a single table naturally fosters unity and a shared rhythm within the team. Sharing the experience of preparing seasonal local ingredients creates a unique bond and a sense of collective achievement.

3. Weave: Dialogue Within A Century Of History

When a team faces one another in a fully reset state, meetings move beyond surface-level talk to address the core of the business. Engaging in deep dialogue late into the night beneath 100-year-old wooden beams provides the perfect opportunity to map out the future of your company.

Dining

Dining is enjoyed in a flexible, self-catering style that gives you the freedom to bring your own ingredients. The spacious kitchen is centered around a three-burner stove and is fully equipped with everything you need, including a refrigerator, microwave, and rice cooker, along with a full selection of cookware, cutlery, and glassware.

Shopping for local ingredients and preparing meals together in the traditional earthen-floor kitchen is an experience unique to a private villa stay. Since the Fujieda area is famous for its fresh produce and tea, you can easily pick up seasonal flavors at nearby markets and enjoy a relaxed feast with your group. This freedom to design your own dining experience adds a layer of luxury that makes the memories of your stay even more meaningful.

Nestled in the silence of the mountains, where you can tend to a wood-burning fire, appreciate local tea, and share deep conversations with companions. A stay at Tsumugi-juku Fuji is designed to help you reclaim those precious moments often forgotten in the rush of daily life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is available to use in the kitchen? +
The inn provides pots, pans, and all the kitchenware you need for cooking. Tableware is also available, so you can enjoy preparing your own meals during your stay.
Is there parking available? +
Parking is available on-site. Up to four cars can be parked directly in front of the building. Additional parking is available in the backyard area; however, the entrance is narrow, which may make access difficult for certain vehicles. If you have a large car or are concerned about parking, we recommend using the space in the front. Please feel free to contact us in advance if you have any concerns about where to park.
How are the temperatures in the house? +
This 100-year-old traditional house has been renovated, and the plumbing and facilities have been updated. As the inn preserves the authentic charm of a traditional home, the structure can be susceptible to the heat or cold depending on the season. Hopefully, the unique atmosphere that only a traditional house can provide can be enjoyed as part of the experience.
