Tea Terrace Ichinose is a private, reservation-only terrace that opened in April 2022. It is tucked away in the Ichinose area of Setonoya, a mountainous region surrounded by the vibrant nature of Fujieda City, Shizuoka. Located at the headwaters of the pristine Seto River, this area has long been known for producing high-quality tea.
Here, you can enjoy premium local tea against a backdrop of endless tea plantations and majestic mountains. It is gaining attention as a new healing spot where you can step away from the hustle and bustle and connect with nature through all five senses.
Highlights
The true magic is the overwhelming sense of freedom and the exclusive feeling of having a breathtaking view all to yourself. Usage is limited to just two groups per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), so you can enjoy your private time without worrying about other visitors.
From the wooden deck, which juts out from the mountainside at a high altitude, you can look out over the vibrant green tea fields, the village of Ichinose, and even as far as the Omaezaki area on a clear day. Spending time wrapped in the scent of carefully cultivated tea while feeling the refreshing breeze is a truly extraordinary luxury.
Recommended Ways to Spend Your Time
Your experience starts by checking in at the Ichinose no Sato Tea Factory at the base of the mountain. Once you receive your picnic set which includes tea utensils, two types of tea (such as sencha and matcha), and traditional sweets, you will drive your own car (or rental car) up a narrow mountain road for about 7 minutes to reach the terrace. Please note that access by car is mandatory, as public transport or taxis are not practical for this stretch.
Once you arrive at the terrace, the time is yours. Use the provided utensils to brew your own tea and savor it with the delicious sweets. Since the terrace is reserved for 90 minutes and extensions are available upon request, you can spend the time however you like. You might take photos against the stunning backdrop, read a favorite book, or even spread out a yoga mat for some stretching. With the crisp mountain air, simply closing your eyes and listening to the birds chirping or the tea leaves rustling in the wind will make your daily fatigue fade away.
After your session, you head back to the tea factory to return the equipment. If you find a tea you love, you can purchase it directly at the factory as a souvenir. Since the Suishamura area mentioned in a previous article is also in Setonoya, it is highly recommended to plan a Fujieda countryside drive: start with tea at the terrace in the morning, then head over to Suishamura to immerse yourself in more nature.
