About Hoshinoi
Ouchi-juku, located about a 10-minute drive from Magokoro no Yado Hoshinoi, is a famous tourist spot known for its thatched-roof village. It flourished as a post town connecting Aizuwakamatsu and Nikko Imaichi during the Edo period, and even today, the thatched-roof houses still preserve the atmosphere of that era. Guests staying at Hoshinoi can join the exclusive Ouchi-juku Night Tour, where many visitors fall in love with its magical scenery!
From Tokyo, it’s about a three-hour journey by train or car. The inn is conveniently located just a 15-minute walk from Yunokami Onsen Station on the Aizu Railway.
Our Signature Dinner
Some repeat guests have visited Hoshinoi more than 100 times just to enjoy the simmered potato dish, a highlight of our dinner.
Dinner
Dinner features carefully prepared creative Japanese cuisine, made with an abundance of fresh, locally sourced vegetables. Each season offers a unique menu that highlights the best flavors of the season.
Dinner
Simmered Potatoes
Our famous simmered potatoes are cooked whole until tender and served piping hot with daikon radish and frozen tofu. The potatoes crumble softly in your mouth, soaking up the flavorful broth, making it a beloved dish that has even been featured multiple times on television.
Onsen (Hot Spring)
At Magokoro no Yado Hoshinoi, guests can enjoy natural hot spring water directly sourced from Yunokami Onsen, flowing freely without any recycling or added water. The inn features both indoor and open-air baths, available 24 hours a day. Many guests take advantage of the quiet nighttime or early morning hours to soak in solitude.
Hot Spring
Open-Air Bath
The spring water is a mildly alkaline simple hot spring—clear, gentle on the skin, and said to help with muscle pain, poor circulation, and fatigue. Its soft texture allows for long, relaxing soaks.
Rooms
The inn features a total of eight guest rooms, including four traditional Japanese-style tatami rooms (for up to two guests each), two Western-style rooms with beds, and two rooms equipped with private restrooms. Each room has its own unique design and charm.
A small yet delightful detail: the hot water in the room’s pot actually comes from the Yunokami hot spring source itself. Reservations are accepted by phone only, ensuring a more intimate experience not found on major booking sites — perfect for travelers seeking a truly authentic and personal stay.

Tour
One of the most distinctive services offered by Magokoro no Yado Hoshinoi is the Ouchi-juku Night Tour. This exclusive and completely free guided tour is available only to guests staying at the inn. After dinner, the owner himself drives a minibus and personally guides participants through the quiet, lantern-lit streets of Ouchi-juku.

Night Tour
During the day, Ōuchi-juku is bustling with tourists, but at night, it becomes almost deserted and tranquil. On the tour, guests can enjoy the quiet, empty streets of this popular sightseeing spot, experiencing a sense of stepping back in time.
Participation is free of charge, and all necessary equipment is provided by the inn—so you can join empty-handed. During the tour, the owner also shares fascinating stories about Ouchi-juku’s history, local traditions, and the constellations above, giving guests a deeper appreciation of this historic village under the night sky.
