About the Irori lodge -Ashina-
Irori no Yado Ashina is a small hot spring inn with 7 guest rooms, located in Higashiyama Onsen, Aizu-Wakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. The building was originally constructed in 1948 (Showa 23) and renovated to open as an inn in 1980 (Showa 55), retaining a strong sense of nostalgic Showa-era retro charm.
Japanese antiques
Okami's collection of cherished antiques is displayed in abundance.
Meal (DInner&Breakfast)
Ashina’s signature dining experience is the “Irori Kaiseki”. The inn’s dining area features seven irori hearths, each reserved for individual guest groups. Over the charcoal fire of the irori, local seasonal ingredients such as Iwabuna river fish and Aizu jidori chicken are carefully grilled, offering simple yet deeply flavorful regional cuisine.
Dinner
The “Irori Kaiseki”
The Iwabuna river fish is slow-grilled over charcoal for about an hour, producing tender meat and bones that are soft enough to eat, with a plump and flavorful texture.
Breakfast
The healthy Japanese-style breakfast
The rice is Aizu Koshihikari, freshly steamed to perfection, served with local miso soup.
Hot Spring
The hot springs at Irori no Yado Ashina use 100% fresh water from their own source in Higashiyama Onsen, allowing guests to luxuriate in truly fresh, flowing hot spring water. The spring is a gentle, slightly hot, simple alkaline spring, with a soft and soothing texture. It is known for its therapeutic benefits, including improving arteriosclerosis, women’s health issues, burns, chronic skin conditions, and cuts. After bathing, guests can feel their skin become soft and moisturized.
Hot Spring
Indoor bath
The inn offers charming indoor baths (large communal baths) and outdoor baths for both men and women. During the day, the baths are separated by gender, but from 20:30 to 23:10 after dinner, they can be used as private baths. Each private session lasts 40 minutes per group, and reservations are made at check-in.
Rooms
Ashina is a small inn with 7 Japanese-style guest rooms spread across the 2nd and 3rd floors. 2nd Floor: These rooms were converted from a former stage-equipped banquet hall. Each room ranges from 10 to 15 tatami mats in size and comes with a private toilet, offering a spacious and comfortable layout.
3rd Floor: The four rooms here retain the traditional charm from the building’s original construction in 1948 (Showa 23). Each features an 8-tatami room plus a small entryway (fumikomi). These rooms use shared toilets, but guests can enjoy a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere with lacquered furnishings, antique black rotary phones, and old-style CRT televisions.
Room
3rd Floor「あられの間」Arare Room
An 8-tatami room with Showa-era retro décor, where guests can enjoy nostalgic antiques, magazines, and furnishings from the 1950s. Please enjoy a relaxing moment in traditional Japanese space.
