Aizu Kogen Nango Ski Resort

A breathtaking snowy paradise with vistas that captivate everyone from first-timers to seasoned pros.

About Aizu Kogen Nango Ski Resort

Aizu Kogen Nango Ski Resort is a ski resort located on the slopes of Mount Denshō in Minamiaizu Town, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture. Sitting at an elevation of around 1,000 meters, the resort offers seven courses suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced skiers, and it is especially known for its halfpipe, one of its signature features.

Minamiaizu Town is one of the heaviest snowfall areas in the Tohoku region. The snow here is very fine and light, creating soft, powdery conditions that are perfect for enjoying fresh snowfall. On clear days, visitors can take in stunning views from the top of the mountain, where the deep blue sky contrasts beautifully with the pure white mountain scenery. This striking combination is affectionately known as “Nango Blue,” named after the ski resort itself.

Highlights & Experiences

Aizu Kogen Nango Ski Resort features seven wide and varied courses, ranging from gentle slopes ideal for beginners to the advanced Denshō Course, which reaches a maximum gradient of 37 degrees. Thanks to the exceptionally light powder snow found in the Minamiaizu area, fresh snowfall days offer soft, fluffy conditions that are a joy to ski or ride. From the upper slopes, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy sweeping views of the Minamiaizu mountain range on clear days, where the contrast between the deep blue sky and pure white snow creates the stunning scenery known as “Nango Blue.”

The Nango Snow Park is one of the best-equipped snow parks in Japan and is especially popular with snowboarders and freestyle skiers. Its 1,000-meter-long park allows riders to use the lift efficiently and practice repeatedly without long hikes. The park is divided into three areas: the Main Pyon-Pyon Park for intermediate to advanced riders, the Sub Pyon-Pyon Park designed for beginners, intermediates, and children, and the Sky Park. Beginner-friendly zones are equipped with smaller kickers, boxes, and wave features, making the park an ideal place for first-time snow park experiences.

In front of the central lodge, there is a kids’ park designed especially for families. Children can enjoy sledding, a snowmobile train available on weekends, plastic play equipment, and even igloos, making it a safe and fun play area. All activities in the kids’ park are free of charge, allowing parents to relax while their children play comfortably. The central lodge also houses a rental shop, offering a full range of ski and snowboard equipment, including complete rental sets with gear and wear.

Even visitors who arrive empty-handed can easily start skiing or snowboarding, a convenience that is especially popular with families and first-time visitors.

Recommended Ways to Spend Your Time

On clear days, you can enjoy skiing while taking in the beautiful contrast of blue skies and a snow-covered landscape known as “Nango Blue.” When the weather is good, we recommend starting early in the morning, gliding down the slopes in the crisp, refreshing air. When you get hungry, stop by the central lodge or Nango Lodge for a warm meal. The main restaurant inside the central lodge offers unique dishes such as tomato cheese ramen and tomato sauce katsudon, which are popular with visitors. Nango Lodge, open on weekends only, is well known for its signature jingisukan (grilled lamb) set meal.

Ski lessons are also offered regularly at the resort. There are four types of classes: programs for children aged 5–6, elementary school students, adults, and private lessons. Lessons are available in two-hour or four-hour sessions, allowing participants to choose what best fits their schedule. In addition, a snowboard school led by a former park producer of Aizu Kogen Nango Ski Resort is also available. If you are interested in starting snowboarding or improving your skills, this is another great option to consider.
