About Onsen Minshuku Nishikiya

“Onsen Minshuku Nishikiya” is a small hot spring inn with only six guest rooms, located in Yunokami Onsen in Shimogō Town, Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture. The inn occupies a traditional Japanese house built in the late Meiji period, which was transformed into an inn in 1975 (the 50th year of the Shōwa era). Guests can enjoy their stay surrounded by the warmth of century-old beams and pillars that preserve the charm of the past.

Nestled among deep mountains and scenic valleys, the area offers a lush natural setting where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and spend a peaceful, healing time. The inn is conveniently located about a 15-minute walk from Aizu Railway’s Yunokami Onsen Station.

Meal(Dinner&Breakfast)

Dinner at Nishikiya features a variety of regional dishes that highlight the seasonal bounty of Aizu.

Meals are served in a cozy dining room with striking wooden beams crossing overhead. All seats are at tables, providing a relaxed and comfortable dining experience. In the morning, soft sunlight filters through the windows, creating the perfect setting for a peaceful start to the day.

Hot Spring

Yunokami Onsen, where “Nishikiya” is located, boasts an abundant hot spring flow of 3,000 liters per minute. The water is even supplied to about 140 households in the Yunokami district. The spring is a mildly alkaline simple hot spring, said to be effective for neuralgia, muscle pain, joint pain, and chronic digestive disorders. Its gentle texture makes it kind to the skin and warms the body from deep within.

For amenities, “Nishikiya” provides products from the popular skincare brand Aesop, reflecting the inn’s attention to even the smallest details.

At the entrance to the baths, wooden signs indicate whether the bath is currently for “Men,” “Women,” or “Private Family Use.”

The baths are open 24 hours a day for staying guests, allowing you to enjoy a soak whenever you like.

Rooms

Nishikiya offers six Japanese-style guest rooms, each named after a seasonal flower or plant. Within this century-old building, every room retains original architectural details such as large wooden beams and beautifully carved geometric ranma transoms, reflecting the elegance of traditional craftsmanship. Each room also features a fresh flower arrangement personally created by the proprietress (okami), creating a nostalgic atmosphere where the old and new harmoniously blend.

In every room, guests are welcomed with Aizu’s local confection “Kurumi Yokan” (walnut sweet bean jelly) and two types of Japanese tea — matcha-infused genmaicha and sencha — both from the popular U.S. tea brand Den’s Tea. The gentle aroma of the tea, served in traditional ceramic cups, offers a soothing respite after a long journey.
