A tranquil lodge of adventure, hot springs, and cuisine
Located within Bandai-Asahi National Park in Inawashiro, Fukushima, Numajiri Kogen Lodge is a tranquil retreat nestled in the rich natural surroundings at the foot of Mt. Adatara.

About NUMAJIRI PLATEAU LODGE
With only 12 rooms for up to 24 guests, the lodge keeps a cozy, wooden mountain-lodge feel while offering modern comfort. Rooms do not have TVs or clocks, allowing guests to relax fully. Options include a suite with a semi-open-air bath and a tatami-style twin room where you can go barefoot.
Children under 12 are not allowed, making it perfect for adults seeking a peaceful getaway. Guests often say it’s a serene escape from city life.
The motto for meals at Numajiri Kogen Lodge is “One Dish at a Time.” Dinner features a creative Japanese kaiseki course using carefully selected local ingredients, including seasonal vegetables from Aizu and the Tohoku region, mountain delicacies, branded meats from Fukushima, and fresh seafood from the Sanriku and Joban coasts.
Dinner
Fresh Sanriku scallops and summer flounder.
By slicing the seafood right before serving, oxidation is minimized, bringing out its natural sweetness and pristine freshness
The chef places great importance on relationships with local producers, sourcing vegetables from organic contracted farms and seafood directly from fisherman colleagues. This meticulous attention to detail is reflected in every single dish.
Fukushima is also known for its rich variety of local sake, and the lodge offers an extensive selection that pairs perfectly with the seasonal dishes, allowing guests to enjoy a sake tasting during dinner.
Hot Spring
Numajiri Kogen Lodge’s pride is its hot spring, a highly acidic sulfur spring (Numajiri Motoyu) that gushes from near the crater of Mount Adatara at an elevation of 1,250 m. Boasting the largest output of any single spring in Japan, it produces a continuous flow of 13,400 liters per minute. With a pH of 2.1—comparable to lemon juice—its strong acidity stimulates the skin and, with a rich 155.4 mg/L of metasilicic acid, is known to promote metabolism and skin health. The milky white water has a distinctive character, and hot spring enthusiasts describe it as “an extremely strong acid that reminds you of Kusatsu Onsen.”
At Numajiri Kogen Lodge, guests can enjoy this spring in both indoor and outdoor baths, all with direct spring water flow. The open-air bath, surrounded by trees, offers seasonal views of fresh greenery, autumn foliage, and snowy landscapes, along with the refreshing breeze of the highlands. Day-use bathing is also available from 11:00 to 14:30 (except Tuesday–Thursday), allowing non-staying visitors to experience this famous hot spring.
Room
The guest rooms at Numajiri Kogen Lodge are designed in a natural-modern style, wrapped in the warmth of wood, with a variety of room types to suit different needs. Every room features a Simmons bed to support a restful sleep, and with no TV or clock, guests can enjoy a quiet space immersed in nature.

Suite Room with Semi-Open-Air Bath
There is only one 40㎡ suite available. It features a private hot spring bath with free-flowing natural spring water. By opening the window, guests can enjoy it as an open-air bath. The room accommodates 1–2 guests.
Depending on the season and room type, there are various packages available, such as creative dinners using local ingredients, special plans for anniversaries, or plans that include hot spring trekking experiences.
