Toto no Sato

Catch it, eat it, and enjoy the full experience of the river!

 About Toto no Sato

Toto no Sato is a place where you can try fishing for Yamame, which is a type of mountain trout. It is located in the Atago area of Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, and is surrounded by beautiful nature. Since it opened in 1989, many families and people who love the outdoors have visited this spot. It uses the clean water from a small branch of the Atago River.

The Atago area is famous for its very clean water. In fact, the Atago River was once chosen as one of the top 100 famous waters in Japan. The area is full of green trees and fresh air. It is a peaceful place far away from the busy city where you can relax and listen to the sound of the river.

Highlights of Toto no Sato

The best part of this spot is catching Yamame, a fish known as the Queen of the Clear Stream. The fishing ponds are filled with fresh river water and plenty of healthy fish. Because of this, even beginners and small children can enjoy the feeling of real river fishing very easily.

The view in Atago also changes with the seasons. You can see fresh green leaves in spring, play in the river in summer, and see colorful leaves in autumn. In winter, you can experience a cozy mountain life by eating your fish near a traditional Japanese irori, which is a fireplace in the floor.

You can really feel the traditional atmosphere of a mountain village!

How to Enjoy Your Visit

It takes about 20 minutes by car from the Hamamatsu Fruit Park Smart IC on the Shin-Tomei Expressway. After driving through the mountain roads, you will find Toto no Sato hidden among the trees.

First, go to the desk and rent a fishing rod. The staff will kindly teach you how to put bait on the hook and how to catch the fish. When you finally catch a Yamame, you will be surprised by how beautiful and shiny it is. For a small fee, the staff will clean the fish and grill it with salt for you, so you can eat it while it is perfectly fresh.

For lunch, the Salt-Grilled Yamame and Yamame Tempura are the most popular choices. The fish is grilled slowly over charcoal, making the inside soft and the skin crispy. It has a very clean and delicious taste. If you eat it with local vegetables, you will have a wonderful lunch that makes you feel great.

In the summer, there is a special area where children can try catching fish with their bare hands. You can hear them cheering as they splash in the water. You can also take the fish home, so it is a good idea to bring a cooler bag. Why not visit and refresh yourself with the clean water and quiet nature of Tenryu?
